When I was 4 years old, my father, a journalist made me a funny painting which made me laugh but brought me into the art world.
At my age of 9, my father brought my painting to a Children's Palace which was a training school for children's talent development. A teacher of art class liked my painting and agreed to take me. Since then, I started my one-year official training on painting.
Every Sunday, my father sent me to Children's Palace for a full-day training on perspective drawing, color, and other painting skills, which laid good foundation for my self-learning in the future.
After one-year training in Children's Palace, I kept practicing painting by self learning. One day, at my age of 14, I was so impressed by the watercolor work of my father's friend's son, of which colors are transparent and pure. Later on I tried various painting materials but loved watercolor most.
I used to consider art institute to become an artist when I graduated from high school. This thought ended when attending University of International Business and Economics in Beijing.
My enthusiasm and pursuit in art never stops. In the period of university education, I visited galleries and read many art books and journals. Sometimes, I went on outdoor sketching. At the same time, I also tried various art formats such as photography, carving chops, sculpture, etc to enhance my art cultivation.
While working in the US on 1997-2001, I had more time to practice watercolor painting. Moreover, I attended local art club and communicated with professional artist, which provided great help in improving my painting skills. In 2000, I attended annual spring show which was hosted by local art club. My watercolor work of "Autumn Leaves" wan Winsor & Newtown Painting Award (Silver award). Among 4 silver award winners, I was the only amateur. This award greatly strengthened my enthusiasm and confidence in watercolor work.
I returned to China in 2001. I spent limited time on painting due to busy work, however, my enthusiasm in watercolor never faded away. I hope to communicate with those art lovers through my paintings for experience sharing which may bring more joy and color to this world.
